15 minutes
I am not a cook. Just ask my kids! I am grateful for those who can, but I have yet to prepare a meal and get enough appreciation from those partaking of it to warrant spending more of my time in the kitchen. I’m the one who thinks Toll House® cookie dough is as good as homemade. Raw dough is even better. I look for the pancake mix that only requires water. You get the point? If I spend 15 minutes cooking breakfast or on thousands of other tasks, it will never make much of an impact on anyone’s life. But what if I could radically help someone’s life in just 15 minutes a day? Would I? Would you? What if 15 minutes really could make a difference in your life? For 12 years at Highpoint (and long before), my husband and I have encouraged, begged, taught on, and modeled what we call a Priority Time. Think of it as a daily date with the God of the universe.
Why?Because it is the one thing that has had a greater impact on our own lives than anything else in our 41 and 43 years on this planet.
Why?Because we want you to experience the same affection from our Heavenly Father that we have experienced. He loves you just as much, you just need to hear it from Him to believe it.
Why?Because the enemy tries so hard to convince believers that God’s Word is boring and irrelevant. It is simply not true.
My husband has just released Priority Time: Addicted to God’s Word. It’s a simple book. It’s a cheap book. It could be what the Lord uses to overwhelm you with His love for you. In an easy and concise way, it teaches you what to actually do when you sit down to spend time with the Lord and His Word. Then, he provided 21 guided priority times to help get you started using the book of Philippians. And if that weren’t enough, there is also a devotional to read that goes along with each passage. The only thing you must provide is 15 minutes of your time.Whether you live in Memphis or not, I hope you will get your hands on a book (www.prioritytimebook.com). Whether you attend Highpoint or not, I hope you will journey along with us throughout the 21 days of prayer and priority time (starting Aug 10th). Chris will also be teaching a complementary 4-week sermon series, starting Aug 11th. (Come to Highpoint or follow online at www.highpointmemphis.com/media.)This isn’t about a church. This is about the One true God who desires you to be so overwhelmed by His love for you that you can’t wait to spend time with Him each day. Maybe you have tried before and failed. Who cares? God really isn’t concerned with how many X’s you’ve put in the box over the years, or how religious you have or haven’t been. He certainly is a God of second and third chances. Will you show Him the same courtesy? If you have walked with the Lord for a while, you will know that, just like a phone call to your best friend, 15 minutes soon feels too short. You might actually have more to say once you start the conversation. But first… will you commit to simply starting the conversation?
