3 Ways to Regret-Free Living

To hit the topic of sports twice in a month is a somewhat atypical plan for a blog primarily intended for women… but Chris and I recently had the privilege of hearing Bill Curry speak – a past Super Bowl champion and college football coach. The wisdom of this godly man was so noteworthy that, as far as I’m concerned, his career was irrelevant. And, believe it or not, there are many similarities between football players and women. Curry said that his job as a player was to “hike the ball and be run over slowly.” That sounds like a day in the life of a mom to me! Make a play and just hope to come out alive at the end of the day.[bctt tweet="Believe it or not, there are many similarities between football players and women."]We were so impressed with his wise and humble approach that I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up at Highpoint at the LeadershipWorks Conference one day. Until then, checkout my 3 most impactful takeaways for regret-free living…

1. If you break a rule to win, you didn’t win.In a culture where people try to convince you that the end justifies the means, this is the truth we need to keep in front of us. This is true for everyone… but as a follower of Christ, it’s doubly true. Our Heavenly Father sees every one of our choices… inside and out. Predetermine to be a woman who lives above reproach. No short cut is ever worth knowing you’ve compromised your character.

2. There are two kinds of pain: the pain of discipline and the pain of regret.I hear this playing like a tape in the back of my head as I stand looking at my running shoes. I hate running, but I hate not being in shape more. This principle, however, has even greater implications when we think about our relationship with the Lord. We can whine about how hard it is to find time to spend with the Lord, but the alternative is to not hear from Him and suffer the consequences of winging it without His counsel. No amount of sleep could ever be worth the danger of living outside God’s best for your life.

3. Avoid the Fellowship of the Miserable. You know whom I am talking about. The Fellowship of the Miserable are those people who are half empty and keep you from being your best. Coach warned us not to let them in our huddle. You might not play on a football team, but you have your peeps… and if those peeps bring you down, you need to reconsider your huddle. You see, the people in the Fellowship of the Miserable are those you love, those you pray for, and those you avoid. Why? They’re the ones who don’t want you to succeed at something hard because it reveals they haven’t tried anything hard.

[bctt tweet="If you break a rule to win, you didn’t win."]Ladies, God has wired greatness in each of us. He chooses to use us for His purposes. Whatever you do, don’t limit the opportunity to experience the joy of being used. Live above reproach, gladly accept the lesser pain of discipline, and get the right peeps around you.Your turn: Don’t just read; make a decision. Which one of these 3 principles do you need to apply today for regret-free living? What’s 1 practical step you need to take?
