A project every believer can be proud of...
Sometimes I can get discouraged. As a believer, I know how the book ends. I know we win. But almost everything in our culture seems to chip away at our Judeo-Christian foundation rather than affirm it. Everything, that is… until last Thursday.Chris and I had the incredible privilege of learning about a project that will blow your mind. As a Christian, it’ll make you want to stand up and beat your chest, fist pump your neighbor, and do the moonwalk! Yes, me. The un-excitable, calm Karin was that moved. But before we make fools of ourselves, let me explain what all the excitement is about.Steve Green, the President of Hobby Lobby, is leading an initiative to create the first museum devoted to explaining and celebrating the significance the Bible has had on our world’s history. Now, before some of you hear “museum” and start yawning, let me tell you something. In the appropriate context of research and historical accuracy, the Museum of the Bible is a museum. However, it will be unlike any museum you have ever visited. Additionally, when it opens in November 2017, it will sit in Washington D.C. just three blocks away from the U.S. Capitol Building. It will make a statement that will reverberate throughout the world that America is still one nation under God.My husband is not a library guy. Nor is he a museum guy. When he started his Ph.D., they required him to do over 20 hours of library research per week. Do you know what he was doing in his library cubicle? He was dreaming about how real ministry should be done. Why do I digress? I tell you this because even Chris was excited about the endless possibilities that began with this one family’s generosity! It will be a tool that will not only acknowledge the past influence of the Bible, but with state of the art technology, it will also bring the Bible to life to a population that’s biblically illiterate.[bctt tweet="What is it that will bring the Bible to life to a population that’s biblically illiterate?"]The Bible is the foundation of our existence. It has shaped governments, education, medicine, relationships, and so much more. The value of reinforcing and explaining the Bible’s influence in a relevant way is essential in our generation. As we spoke with the President of the Museum of the Bible, he reiterated what the evening’s presentation displayed: this will be done at a level of excellence that will even demand the attention of the person who is most indifferent to Scripture. I’ll leave it to a few video links to accurately describe the level of technology that will be alive in this 430,000 square foot facility. As one who depends on the Bible, please take 5 minutes to become informed and encouraged in your faith by watching this overview. It’s long overdue for the Christian community to be the forerunners again in creativity, excellence, and message. If that weren’t enough, this same initiative has developed the first of its kind interactive Bible curriculum. It’s ahead of its time in education across all academic disciplines. While the red tape of U.S. schools initially slowed the pilot program here, God opened doors so it is now one of the most popular elective curriculums in Israel and they’re having requests for it in countless other countries. My voice in the world is a very small one. The other people in the room who heard this presentation have an influence far wider than I do. But I cannot resist taking the time to make sure everyone I know begins to put this endeavor on their radar. Plan your trip, link to the videos on your social media feeds, and pray for God to continue showing His favor on this incredible beacon of light being built in the heart of our republic.[bctt tweet="It’s time for Christians to be the forerunners again in creativity, excellence + message."]Museum of the Bible on Twitter.Museum of the Bible on Facebook.Museum of the Bible on the web.
