Working from Home is for the Birds….
I know this is a little strange, but I find my most productive hours of work occur in my car. Originally, I made this discovery because we lived so far from where our kids were in school. It wasted too much time for me to drive back and forth from the house between school drop off and pick up.Unless the heat is unbearable, I can be incredibly productive in my little bubble. For whatever it is worth, at least half of my Bible study, Miss Perfect, was written within three inches of an airbag. For the price of a cup of Starbucks or a chicken biscuit, I can enjoy WIFI and have a climate controlled, vitamin D enriched environment. This is one way to avoid the blues. Sunshine definitely helps my outlook. Not only that, but I can change the view outside of my window at my leisure and I do not have to deal with super cold buildings that always seem to find me. Oh, and the noise. Dead silence is my preference with a little Fox News on my break. We recently moved and cut my drive time in half, but I still find myself drawn to working in my car. After several hot days forcing me inside, I recently saw 73 degrees register on my car’s thermometer…A perfect workday for me and all the other people who work in their cars J. I pulled into one of my usual spots and started working. It wasn’t long before I started feeling warm. I turned the car back on to check the thermometer. Sure enough, it still registered 73 degrees. Somehow the bright sun was making it feel much warmer than technology indicated. Being an old pro, I knew how to remedy my problem and I decided I needed to head to one of my more shaded spots. As I relocated my office, I spotted the largest tree. I made my way up to the closest parking spot knowing it would offer the greatest and longest protection from the strong rays of the sun.Less you think this is just about my strange work habits, there is a lesson in the picture of that tree casting its shadow over me. Just as I literally got as close to the tree as my vehicle would allow, we must move that close to the Lord. I am at my safest when I am curled up under the protection of my Heavenly Father. In the way that tree provides relief from both too much sun and too much rain, God is the One who keeps us grounded and rooted in both times of blessing and in the storms. I cannot survive when I get too far from His protective shadow. Some of my favorite names of God bring the imagery that God is my Protector, my Strong Tower, my Rock, and my Refuge. I am so grateful that I can come right to Him and seek His protection. While you may not find your car to be your work environment of choice, I do hope that you will take a few moments today to consider, are you experiencing God as your Refuge? If you are feeling completely vulnerable and exposed to the pressures of life, what is one thing you need to start doing or stop doing to move back under His protection? You may need to relocate your office.
